  • 0.25 cup sour cream For a hint of tanginess.
  • 1 egg, beaten Helps bind the cheese mixture.
  • 1 Tbsp dried parsley Freshens up the flavors.
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese slices Melts beautifully for that cheesy goodness.
  • 0.5 cup grated parmesan cheese Adds a sharp, savory finish.
Optional Add-ons
  • Fresh vegetables: spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini Can be layered in for added nutrition.
  • Red pepper flakes For those who enjoy some heat.
  • Ricotta cheese Replace or mix with cottage cheese for a richer texture.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Boil the lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and lay flat to prevent sticking.
  3. In a medium skillet, brown the Italian sausage (or chosen meat) over medium heat, then drain any excess fat. Add the spaghetti and tomato sauces along with the Italian seasoning. Allow it to simmer on low for about 5-10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. In a bowl, stir together cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, beaten egg, and dried parsley until well blended.
Layering
  1. Lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Begin with a layer of meat sauce, followed by noodles, cheese mixture, and repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  3. Finish with a top layer of mozzarella cheese and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  3. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Common mistakes to avoid include overcooking the noodles, incorrect layering, and skipping the resting time.
